Do I need a commercial gas engineer/

There is often confusion over the point at which a domestic gas engineer is out of scope and a commercial gas engineer is required, the following should help to clarify that.

Although most dwellings will fall under domestic scope (IGE/UP/1B) we have worked in many where that is not the case, if there is a cascade of 2x 40kw boilers for instance or mabe an old but in-use 2” gas pipe then the basic training and qualifications are not relevant or adequate.

If the answer to any of the following list is yes then a commercial engineer must be used;

• Is any one gas appliance rated over 70kw?

• Is there any part of the gas supply (after the meter) that is over 35mm?

• Does the total installation exceed 0.035m³?

• Is the total input of all gas appliances that share a wall for the flue outlet greater than 70kw?

• Are any of the appliances considered commercial by the manufacturer?

• Is the gas meter above 16m³?
